Hometown: Tel Aviv.
Studio location: Tel Aviv.
Describe what you make: Modern Levant jewelry.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: Sun earrings. I made them while still living in New York, when I missed the sun and beach back home.
Describe the problem your work solves: By abstracting artifacts from different cultures, eras, and contexts, I’m trying to eliminate the distance between familiarity and new.
Describe the project you’re working on now: I just finished shooting the AW21 lookbook with the most amazing team (photographer Dudi Hasson, model Sean Levvy, stylist Noa Rennet, hair and makeup Roza Schwartsman). Although most of us have been working abroad, we found ourselves in the unique situation of being all back in Tel Aviv due to the pandemic, and took advantage of this rare opportunity to create together.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: For SS21, I collaborated with Minuit on an embellished silk dress, which launches this month on their website, and with Printemps in Paris. I worked with the designers, Laurie and Marion, at Proenza Schouler before launching Sapir Bachar and was so excited to cross creative paths again. Also, I’m hoping to launch a homeware collection this summer.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Natural light and sparkling water.
What you do when you’re not working: Drinking wine on the balcony.
Sources of creative envy (dead or alive): Haris Epaminonda.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Israeli politics and Covid-19.
