Featuring a selection of Peter Shire’s works across painting, furniture, sculptures, ceramics, and toys, “In a Hollywood Bungalow” puts the early Memphis innovator’s playful approach on full display while highlighting Southern California as a distinctive location within the international art world. His use of different materials pushed late-20th-century design beyond traditional techniques and styles, perhaps best seen in how he combined cones, cylinders, and grids within furniture to create entirely new ideals of functional objects.
