The profound experiences and memories of Huanca’s first visit to Marfa inspired her latest works, which draw on visual, cultural, and mythological cues to replicate the dark skies of far west Texas. She animates a series of paintings and mirrors with cosmic and extraterrestrial forces while also revealing the natural rhythms of the sun and moon. These powerful phenomenological shifts manifest in her first-ever outdoor sculpture, a polished steel structure atop an adobe bench set within a geoglyph made of white marble stones.
