Moved by the densely graffitied wooden desks at his secondary school, the Colombian artist repurposes an archive of more than 40,000 canvases to stitch a series of patchwork paintings rooted in the doodles and drawings from students at 350 different schools around the world. They’re currently on display in the main hall at the Turner Prize winner’s former secondary school, serving as a poignant exploration of the unconscious creative energy of students and the idea of breaking free from the confines of traditional learning environments.
