Norway x New York has always captivated at Sight Unseen Offsite, the annual showcase launched by the venerable design blog’s editors Jill Singer and Monica Khemsurov. With the help of funding from the Norwegian Consulate General, the duo hand-picks the Scandinavian country’s most promising design talents to work with U.S. manufacturers—West Elm, Areaware, and Tortuga among them—to develop one new product for its catalog.
The fourth edition, originally scheduled for 2020 but canceled due to the pandemic, returns to New York gallery Matter Made in a retina-widening showcase envisioned by Office of Tangible Space and Thirdkind Studio where the products sit among a pastel-hued shelving landscape that zigzags throughout. Our favorites? Jenkins&Uhnger’s American-harvested solid wood 45 Table for Dims that references classic aprons, Vera & Kyte’s semi-private wool-felt panel partitions in the shape of scattered pebbles for Designtex, and Pettersen & Hein’s trippy dimensional rug for Edward Fields that embodies the inherent surprises found in nature.
