Here, we ask an artist to frame the essential details behind one of their latest works.
Bio: Inès Longevial, 32, Paris (@ineslongevial)
Title of work: 3 parts of Accio (2022).
Where to see it: “World on Paper” at Ketabi Projects (22 passage Dauphine, Paris) until April 30.
Three words to describe it: Honesty, revenge, hot honey.
What was on your mind at the time: When I’m painting or drawing, it’s like meditation. It lets me think about everything at the same time with a distance. At this moment, I was thinking about private thoughts and how to put fire in the work.
An interesting feature that’s not immediately noticeable: The butterfly on fire.
How it reflects your practice as a whole: The work on paper is really intimate and introspective. I work each part piece by piece. I prefer to work on details which come together at the end and create a surprise. My work is done so that people can appropriate it in a personal way, and envisage all the feelings they want.
One song that captures its essence: The original soundtrack of Harry Potter.
