The Cultivist Toasts Leslie Hewitt at Dia Bridgehampton
On July 23, the Cultivist celebrated the recent opening of Leslie Hewitt’s new exhibition at Dia Bridgehampton. Guests joined Hewitt and Dia associate curator Matilde Guidelli-Guidi for a tour of the artist’s exhibition of sculptures and an original score composed in collaboration with artist Jamal Cyrus. The mediums of audio and sculpture in Hewitt’s work together explore “ideas of light, sound, and inertia,” says Guidelli-Guidi of the multisensory exhibition, which was displayed indoors and out at the historic property.
After the tour, Hewitt and Guidelli-Guidi were joined by Dia deputy director of program Humberto Moro and the Cultivist global curator Joey Lico to address guests in the art center’s idyllic courtyard. Hewitt was toasted over flutes of Veuve Clicquot, after which the crowd mingled over local seafood hors d'oeuvres and strawberry lemonade as the evening wound down. Notables in attendance included Neil Hamamoto, Sally Hughes, Harold Mendez, Steven and Wynn Burson Cateron, and Samantha Ehrlich.
