Three decades in the making, the architect’s debut solo exhibition of sculptures, paintings, and drawings opens at the Glyptothek. Among the highlights are 14 wrought-iron sculptures, The Aeginetes, that draw inspiration from marble works depicting battle scenes of Troy that Calatrava spotted during a previous visit. His knack for abstracting the human form—seen in his sculptures, as well as the accompanying drawings and watercolors—shows how his forward-looking perspective isn’t strictly limited to his architecture.
