A Captivating View of Quilting at Nantucket by Design
The theme of this year’s Nantucket by Design is “legacy,” and Christopher Farr Cloth honors it with “Threads of Life,” a remarkably star-studded quilt exhibition benefiting the Nantucket Historical Association. On view at Greater Light from Aug. 2–5, the exhibition includes 14 heavy hitters, including Atelier Ace, Kate Blee, Frank de Biasi, Fogo Island Workshop, Kathleen Hay, Kit Kemp, Mitch Owens, and Eleish van Breems.
Each iterates a captivating take on the ancient craft of quilting. Some, like And Objects and Commune, go graphic; Mally Sock’s is equally geometric while pulling inspiration from Kente cloth. Noz Nozawa threads together historical references to both Gee Bend and Japanese Yosegire patchwork, while Yabu Pushelberg’s beach scene stitches together a sunset worthy of Hockney. And to tie in the theme, the designers all utilize cuttings from Christopher Farr Cloth’s archive of luxury fabric, making each quilt one of a kind. —Jesse Dorris

Schiller Projects is building an eco-minded single-family housing complex in Asheville.
Schiller Projects has started construction on Elk View, a single-family development located on the edge of Asheville, North Carolina. The project, developed by Aibl Property Group, will consist of 25 homes spread over 110 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The community is focused on sustainability, with passive house principles and the use of local materials aiming for net-zero carbon emissions in each building. The houses will feature expansive views of the nearby landscapes, spacious balconies, and terraces, all while incorporating environmentally conscious design elements such as locally sourced finishings and extensive wood cladding.
Rodolfo Dordoni, who helped shape the trajectories of Minotti and Artemide, dies at 69.
Rodolfo Dordoni, the renowned designer known for his work as art director for Italian design brands like Artemide, Cappellini, and Minotti, has died at the age of 69. His creative vision and dedication led to the creation of several timeless classics, helping establish Minotti as a globally recognized brand. Alongside his successful career, Dordoni co-founded the architecture studio Dordoni Architetti and left a major impact on various classic design brands.

Lighthouse Immersive, known for its traveling Vincent van Gogh series projecting large-scale reproductions of the artist’s works on gallery walls and floors, filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy in Delaware last week. The company has also designed displays featuring art by Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, Frida Kahlo, and Disney animations, and claims to have sold 7 million tickets in North America. The filing safeguards the company’s U.S. assets while insolvency proceedings continue in Canada. The company’s approach to projection-based art has gained popularity in recent years, offering a fresh and engaging way to present art to the public, but recent show cancellations have raised concerns about its profitability.
On Tuesday, armed robbers targeted a Paris outpost of Piaget, a luxury Swiss watch brand owned by Richemont, making off with jewelry estimated to be worth between $11 million to $16.5 million. The robbery occurred during lunchtime on Rue de la Paix, located in the tony Place Vendôme, which has recently experienced multiple armed robberies. An investigation is underway, and the police are currently searching for three suspects. Similar incidents have also occurred at Chanel, Bulgari, and Chaumet stores.
Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled the new Daxia Tower in Xi’an, one of China’s largest inland cities with nine million residents. The tower features a gently curving silhouette, patterned glazing, and grand atriums flooding the interior with natural light. The scheme prioritizes adaptable and future-proofed workplaces with data analytics and behavior modeling. The tower is also aiming for LEED Gold certification and China’s highest three-star rating in the Green Building Program, incorporating sustainable features like natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting, and smart energy management.
