For his Latin American debut, Cohen began the series of paintings on view at his home studio in New York, and finished them as an artist in residence at JO-HS Mexico City. “Elysium” combines wide-ranging influences, from the ultra-saturated color palettes of Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, and Ogata Kōrin to the Mexican landscape as well as history and spirituality to walk a careful line between paradise and apocalypse, each of them captivating nonetheless.
