Eighteen contemporary artists will headline Terminal 6’s public art program at JFK.

Thanks to a partnership with Public Art Fund, John F. Kennedy International Airport’s forthcoming Terminal 6 will feature installations by 18 contemporary artists, including Charles Gaines, Barbara Kruger, and Nina Chanel Abney. The $4.2 billion terminal sets aside $22 million for the art budget alone and is the Port Authority’s largest public art initiative yet. It follows successful art programs at LaGuardia and Newark airports.

Sordo Madaleno will refurbish Spain’s El Molinón stadium for FIFA’s 2030 World Cup.

The Spanish firm has unveiled a proposal to refurbish El Molinón stadium in Asturias, Spain, ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The project, which is being led with Orlegi Sports, aims to increase stadium capacity by 9,000 seats, introduce semi-open spaces in the facade, and to create 10 covered ramps for better access throughout. The renovation will also add a 135,000-square-foot restaurant and shopping corridor.

Coperni will stage its October 1 fashion show at Disneyland during Paris Fashion Week.

This fall, Coperni will follow its Bella Hadid spray-on dress spectacle with a Fashion Week first: a runway show at Disneyland Paris. The show, slated for Oct. 1, marks the first time the theme park has participated in Paris Fashion Week. Coperni founders Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant have teased an extravaganza inspired by Disney princesses, blending glamour with their out-of-the-box creativity. The event will include an invitation-only show in Fantasyland, a cocktail at the newly renovated Disneyland Hotel, and an after-party in Discoveryland.

In Bordeaux, OMA’s newly completed bridge for the people doubles as public space.

OMA has unveiled the Simone Veil Bridge in Bordeaux. While most transit infrastructure functions as liminal space, the firm’s founder Rem Koolhaas and partner Chris van Duijn envisioned the Simone Veil, which spans nearly 2000 feet, as an extension of the city’s public space. The bridge features dedicated lanes for cars, public transit, and bikes, as well as 91 feet of neutral space for cultural and commercial activities. Describing the bridge as “anti-iconic,” the designers intend to enhance community interaction without focusing on complex engineering or landmark aesthetics.

Maybe the third time will be the charm for Ikea’s aspiration to open a Manhattan store.

Manhattan is finally welcoming an  Ikea: the Swedish mainstay of flat-packed furniture is slated to open in Midtown’s “Tiffany district” at 570 Fifth Avenue. The 80,000-square-foot store will be a tenant in a shiny new high-rise tower that’s expected to replace pre-war buildings currently on the site. The move aligns with Ikea’s strategy of opening urban stores with a smaller footprint to complement its notoriously labyrinthine locations in giant blue boxes. The retailer has twice previously attempted to set up shop in Manhattan, with a 2019 Planning Studio and mini-Ikea, in 1995. Both were short-lived, raising questions about the new venture’s longevity.
