Jean Nouvel will create a new home for Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.

In late 2025, Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain plans to relocate to a new Jean Nouvel–designed building at Place du Palais-Royal in Paris. The project involves restoring a Haussmannian building that dates back to 1855, transforming it into an 91,000-square-foot space with flexible galleries to support the diverse artistic expressions championed by the Fondation.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan reveals plans for a car-free redevelopment of Oxford Street.

Mayor Sadiq Khan announced plans to ban traffic from London’s Oxford Street, using new Labor government powers to push forward a long-awaited pedestrianization of the street, which could arrive as soon as 2027. The move, which is backed by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, aims to revive the street as a premier retail destination, but is facing opposition over concerns about rerouting buses and accessibility.

A gallery owner in Michigan has been sentenced for defrauding photography collectors.

Gallery owner Wendy Halsted Beard was sentenced to more than five years in prison for defrauding collectors out of $1.6 million by selling fine art photography and keeping the profits. From 2019 to 2022, she deceived clients, including older adults, by fabricating stories and swapping valuable prints for cheap replicas. Beard, who dealt with works by renowned photographers like Ansel Adams and Diane Arbus, must also pay more than $2 million in restitution as part of her sentence.

John Ronan Architects reveals renderings for the Fallen Journalists Memorial.

Renderings of the Fallen Journalists Memorial in Washington, D.C., have been unveiled by John Roan Architects and the Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation. The monument, which will feature 300 handcrafted glass pieces symbolizing how individual facts unite to form a cohesive story, is the country’s first to be made entirely of glass and is expected to be completed by 2028. 

In a global auction house first, Christie’s secures a license to operate in Saudi Arabia.

Christie’s has announced its expansion into Saudi Arabia, making it the first global auction house to operate in the country. With Nour Kelani appointed as managing director, the Riyadh-based location will focus on Modern and contemporary Middle Eastern art and luxury goods.
