Glossier Lands a Fragrance Marketing Slam Dunk, and Other News

“Blind buys,” or seeding vibes on TikTok, surges sales of Glossier’s new fragrances.

Glossier’s new fragrances, Rêve and Doux, achieved record sales on launch day by leveraging TikTok. There, they tapped into a Gen Z audience willing to purchase the scents without having even sampled them thanks to the brand’s social media–forward strategy of seeding teaser boxes with influencers—a contrast to traditional fragrance marketing approaches. 

Fendi will commemorate its centenary with a co-ed fashion show in Milan next fall.

Fendi will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a co-ed runway show during Milan Fashion Week in February. The effort will be led by Silvia Venturini Fendi, the brand’s artistic director for accessories and menswear, and will line up with the reopening of the Spazio Fendi showroom in Milan.

StockX CEO Scott Cutler will step down as the sneaker resale market shifts.

StockX CEO Scott Cutler will step down at the end of 2024, with co-founder and current COO Greg Schwartz lined up to replace him. Schwartz will then focus on further diversifying StockX’s offerings to adapt to shifting trends in sneaker resale, which has faced declining demand for previously high-premium models. 

Next year, Prague will welcome a second museum dedicated to painter Alphonse Mucha.

The Mucha Foundation and developer Crestyl will open a new Alphonse Mucha museum in Prague’s renovated Savarin Palace in January 2025. Thomas Heatherwick is overseeing the palace’s restoration and its new public spaces. The museum will show works never previously exhibited, such as Mucha’s studies and early paintings. 

A humanoid robot’s painting of Alan Turing fetches more than $1 million at Sotheby’s.

Ai-Da, a humanoid robot artist, created a portrait of pioneering computer scientist Alan Turing. Ai-Da is programmed by its designer Aidan Meller to stimulate dialogue about emerging technologies, and its painting, titled A.I. God, sold for $1.08 million at Sotheby’s in New York.
