SOURCE Galerie Scene Ouverte Inaugurates its Emerging Designer Initiative
Young Scene Ouverte, the emerging designer initiative from Galerie Scene Ouverte, opened its dedicated showcase on March 7. Featuring six designers— Anna Zimmermann, Clémence Mars, Studio BISKT, Julia Chehikian, Rinke Joosten, and Faustine de Longueil—drawn from four countries, the exhibition highlights the artistry of collectible design.
Set among the plentiful highlights, two coffee tables toy with convention and perception. From Marseille-based designer Chehikian, an iron and blue glass coffee table made exclusively for the exhibition emulates a pool. With Twins on Ice, a two-part table of glass, resin, and steel, Paris-based designer Mars blends the figurative and the imaginative. Additional pieces range from textural, handmade rugs to vases with bulbous, organic shapes, and aluminum “vessels of imperfection” with unexpected contours. The group show will run until March 22.—David Graver

A Music Festival Curator Spotlights Black Electronica
One performance, listening session, and conversation at a time, Ryan C. Clarke is on a mission to rewrite the prevailing narrative surrounding electronic music. With “Living Equipment,” a series of listening sessions unfolding in New York and New Orleans, the researcher and music festival curator is making a case for Black electronic music not just as a genre but as a genre shaped by migration, urban landscapes, and the mechanics of survival.
Each “Living Equipment” event moves between cultural criticism and immersive listening, dissecting everything from the physics of sampling to the architectural acoustics of underground clubs. The New York edition kicks off in venues from Bossa Nova Civic Club to Triple Canopy’s Chinatown space, and Silence Please, a new listening lounge and tearoom. The series kicks off in New York City on Sunday, March 16 and runs through March 29 before moving to New Orleans in May.—Jenna Adrian-Diaz

Who Knew We Needed Louboutin Tabis? John Galliano.
John Galliano may have left his longtime role at the helm of Maison Margiela, but before he did, he laid the groundwork for a most gobsmacking shoe capsule: Maison Margiela by Christian Louboutin. The collection’s three tabi silhouettes, the Bridiela bridal pump, the Loubiela sandal, and Marlougiela, a cloven-toed version of the Louboutin ballerina flat, combine the labels’ house codes to unignorable effect.—J.A.D.

A Heritage Wallpaper Brand’s Next Chapter
The panels and fabrics of Gracie’s handpainted wallpapers have been realized over the course of a 120 year-history and are known to deck out designer showhouses and stately townhomes. A new collaboration with Ruggable is bringing 11 Gracie patterns home in a fresh way. The 11 floral and botanic prints channel the brand’s stately sense of design history and legacy of craft techniques—without coming across as stuffy.—J.A.D.

SEE In London, Sophie von Hellermann’s Mystical Compositions Drift Beyond Canvas
In her latest exhibition at Pilar Corrias, Sophe von Hellermann’s dreamlike scenes drift beyond mere canvas and onto a mélange of surreal decorative objects: pendant lamps, curtains, and paper screens. Her exhibition, entitled “Moonage,” takes its name from David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream,” the late musician’s introduction to his boundary-pushing alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust. Within the Conduit Street gallery, von Hellermann’s own spectacular visions unfold, while a curatorial text authored by scholar Fabian Goppelsröder expands on Hellermann’s ambition to “change reality through art.”—J.A.D.
