On offer: Cuban and Latin American influences permeate SBE and Related Group’s 57-story high-rise in Miami’s financial center, the SLS’s first property sans serial collaborator and designer Philippe Starck. The 450 residential units and 84 guest rooms are appointed with graphic-print rugs, rounded-edge furniture in muted tones, and green stained-glass cabinets. In the lobby, a 15-foot starburst chandelier by Czech crystal manufacturer Lasvit, inspired by a Yabu Pushelberg’s Cipher collection for the brand, hangs over geometric tiles and citrine-upholstered chairs that nod to the city’s art deco past.
Standout features: A notable art collection brings this project gravitas, starting with the 40,000-square-foot color-block mural by Fabian Burgos on the facade. Fernando Botero’s Male Torso sculpture—once featured on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris and in the MoMA in New York—sits on the terrace of S BAR, whose interior is adorned by a large-scale mural by artists Chandler Noah and Diego Castano depicting colonial-era Caribbean scenes. Daruma-inspired installations by artist studio Moss & Lam mark Japanese chef Katsuya Uechi’s namesake Japanese restaurant, and artist Wayne Pate’s illustrated motifs line the ceiling of the 9th-floor lounge, which leads to a pool fringed by custom cabanas on elevated platforms.
