“Children learn by doing—play is a way for them to work through, try out, experiment and process what they are experiencing in the world around them,” says the Museum of Modern Art’s Elizabeth Margulies, director, Family Programs and Initiatives, and Cari Frisch, assistant director, Family Programs.
That’s why today’s youngest generation of art lovers (and their parents) will find creative inspiration with a side of education with the Making with MoMA art kits and tools, available now at MoMA Design Store. They can also visit the pop-up at the MoMA Design Store, Soho through May 20, which is showcasing selections from the Making with MoMA collection of art-making kits and tools developed by MoMA educators and curators, as well as pieces from designer Todd Oldham’s Kid Made Modern line, and special workshops and activities throughout the month of April.
“Designing for adults is much easier than for kids,” Oldham says. It’s part of what makes the line so personal to the designer. “Kid Made Modern is ultimately a love letter to my parents for the way they infused creativity in all aspects of our lives,” he says. “It shaped a way of seeing that I still use daily.”
The Making with MoMA Pop-Up runs through May 20.
