Describe what you make: I have expanded my product offerings from wallpaper and fabric to include rugs, accessories such as pillows and poufs, and more. I look forward to turning into a full lifestyle brand, with the addition of tile, photography, murals, and fashion on the horizon.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: I would say Analog Nights because it has become iconic for my brand. I custom design characters that reappear throughout several patterns, and my robots are some of the most popular and easily recognizable, so they’re also important.
Describe the problem your work solves: The whimsical nature of my designs has always made them stand out in the market, but they’re especially unique in the commercial sphere, where we now offer several different constructions. I’m always happy to bring variety to the table!
Describe the project you are working on now: We’re launching a new collection called Eudaimonia, taken from the Greek word for “human flourishing.” The wallpaper and fabric patterns and rug explore inner peace and how the natural world affects our state of being. I’ve always been interested in wellness and am a firm believer in eating well and practicing Vedic meditation and yoga, so this launch is personally very exciting.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: Along with the launch of Eudaimonia this week, I’m adding a variety of commercial options in wallpaper, fabrics, and rugs. I’m also working on some new product categories, which we’ll add in the near future.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: I have to have music in my studio! A vintage BOSE speaker system with amazing sound quality is nearly always playing one of my playlists from Spotify. As far as snacks go, I keep healthy and mainly vegan bites around such as fruits, nuts, and superfood balls, and have good coffee and homemade juice to complement. There’s art of all kinds all over my studio, including photography by some of my close friends.
What you do when you’re not working: I love going to concerts in my spare time, and exercise of all forms including running, yoga, weightlifting, and pilates. I’m always hanging out with friends, and especially love driving to destinations together. Traveling to places with water is the best during the summer!
Sources of creative envy: There are a few that are pop culture icons, like Freddie Mercury and Wes Anderson. I also admire Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, interior design firm NICOLEHOLLIS, and The Fool, a Dutch collective that did a lot of work with the Beatles.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Clutter! Living in New York means always being conscious of how you use space.
Concrete or marble? I love them both, but would have to say I have a slight preference for marble because of its natural beauty. Concrete is amazing too because of its industrial vibe.
High-rise or townhouse? Warehouse! If I had to choose between the two, I guess it would be townhouse, but a loft or warehouse would be my top choice. Industrial buildings are my favorite.
Remember or forget? I don’t like to carry baggage from the past, so I lean towards forget.
Aliens or ghosts? Aliens.
Dark or light? Light because I live and work in a space with lots of natural light, and have a special passion for working with colors which need good light to be seen properly.
