Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.
Age: 33
Occupation: Interior designer.
Instagram: @jessieschuster
Hometown: Boston.
Studio location: SoHo, New York.
Describe what you make: I create both high-end residential and commercial spaces for people to enjoy.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: The hotel project in Miami we’re currently working on is our biggest and most complex undertaking to date.
Describe the problem your work solves: My work definitely doesn’t solve world hunger, but it solves spatial programming and design continuity that define both public and private spaces, which affects how people live and interact with one another day-to-day.
Describe the project you are working on now: We’re working on so many. One exciting project is a historic Mediterranean Revival property that is to become the newest 200-room hotel in South Beach, Miami.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: A residential duplex in the new Chiltern Place in Marylebone, England. We’ve just begun the sourcing and creative process on this which will keep us busy through 2020.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Always music—mostly ‘70s or reggae. Candles too, especially Byredo’s Cotton Poplin. Lots of art! I’m always editing and adding, but it helps with the inspiration. I’m very into Dali at the moment. Lots of references to art/history/design books too, obviously. Palo santo.
What you do when you’re not working: Walking my dog, Blue, in New York City’s West Village.
Sources of creative envy: Jean Royère, Atelier AM, Pablo Picasso, Elsie de Wolfe, Syrie Maugham, Gio Ponti, Isamu Noguchi, JP Demeyer, Marella Agnelli, and Jane Birkin.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Vaping.
