On Offer: Standing out amongst the 19th-century English colonial buildings of George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Prestige presents a desirable blending of cultures. The 162-room hotel respectfully showcases a modern interpretation of Victorian design offering English undertones mixed with a Malaysian warmth. White walls pair with copper accents and glass fixtures in the generous 484-square-foot suites. The site itself is backed and surrounded by lush, native, vegetation. To top it all off— literally—an infinity pool with a cocktail bar sits atop of the hotel, basking in the heat.
Standout Feature: Much like its name, and the 2006 film featuring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, The Prestige traffics in a certain delightful sorcery. Expect images of Houdini’s escape box in the rooms, “levitating” beds, and hidden doors leading to adjacent spaces. Even on the way to the rooms, Ministry of Design has lined the corridors with lights which rotate, creating constantly changing, intricately laced shadows. On entering the grand space, a perfectly balanced spherical reception desk greets guests. It’s all part of a transportive magic show that doesn’t end until checkout.
