“A cross-pollination of mid-century modern and the elegance of Italian design has reached Los Angeles,” announced Vincent Van Duysen, creative director of Molteni&C, upon the inauguration of the company’s brand-new showroom in West Hollywood. The 7,600-square-foot space seamlessly fuses the laid-back ambience of an Italian villa with the indoor-outdoor lifestyle of 20th-century Los Angeles, achieved through such standout design elements as a dramatic travertine fireplace and loft-like seating areas that feature recognizable Molteni classics mixed with brand-new pieces by Rodolfo Dordoni, Patricia Urquiola, and Yabu Pushelberg. Perhaps the showroom’s glistening centerpiece is hiding away through a private courtyard in an upstairs lounge: a custom Slide kitchen by Armani Dada, which fuses pared-down sassafras woods with a protruding marble worktop. To celebrate the opening, Molteni hosted the Los Angeles cultural cognoscenti, including Roman Alonso, Cliff Fong, and Portia De Rossi, for an intimate cocktail party on Oct. 23.
