Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.
Age: 37
Occupation: Designer.
Instagram: @samuelamoia
Hometown: New York.
Studio location: New York, with a satellite office in L.A.
Describe what you make: Homes, hotels, and furniture.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: An important private residence in Malibu that’s currently in progress.
Describe the problem your work solves: None. It’s really not that serious!
Describe the project you are working on now: It was great to create three different spaces for three different types of users/clients at the Hayworth. The building interiors are really well-proportioned so it’s nice to also have these wonderfully scaled and large spaces in a new development. And the finishes were very transitional to work with—you can do so many different concepts in these units.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: Yes! Working on a few very cool new hotels which I’ll be announcing in the new year. Plus, the one in Belize I’ve been working on for five years, Itzana Resort & Residences, is finally opening in 2020.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Michael Jackson and gummy bears.
What you do when you’re not working: Sleep and hang out at my house upstate with my friends and dogs.
Sources of creative envy: Diego Giacometti.
The distraction you want to eliminate: iPhones ringing and pinging.
