Amaoko Boafo and more than 11,000 other artists attest to AI’s threat to their livelihoods.

More than 11,000 artists have signed an open letter condemning artificial intelligence companies for using artwork without its creator’s permission to train generative models. The letter, which is also supported by major creative organizations like HarperCollins, Sony Music Group, and UMG, follows ongoing legal battles over copyright infringement, with artists arguing that AI firms exploit their work for free while profiting from other resources.

After a Puma collaboration and variety show, KidSuper launches a record label.

KidSuper founder Colm Dillane has launched KidSuper Records, marking the fashion upstart’s foray into the music industry. The label’s first release, “Big in Da Game,” was performed at KidSuper’s fall 2024 Paris Fashion Week show and features U.K. rapper Giggs and Atlanta hip-hop artist Quavo.

Lease drama with the Chrysler Building is enveloping its office tenants in chaos.

The future of the Chrysler Building remains uncertain as legal disputes between its owners and Cooper Union, which owns the land underneath the tower, escalate over more than $21 million in unpaid rent. RFR and Signa, who purchased the landmark but lease the land from Cooper Union, have struggled financially since the pandemic, with occupancy rates plummeting and building conditions deteriorating.

Some Meta smart glasses have AI turned off, yet are still outselling regular Ray-Bans.

Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have become the best-selling product in 60 percent of Ray-Ban stores across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, despite the region’s lack of AI features due to regulatory reasons. The CFO of Ray-Ban owner EssilorLuxottica noted the glasses’ strong sales during a recent earnings call, attributing their popularity to built-in speakers and cameras.

Beginning in December, the Whitney will waive admission fees for ages 25 and under.

The Whitney Museum will offer free admission to anyone aged 25 and under for the next three years, thanks to a $2.25 million donation from artist Julie Mehretu. This initiative aims to attract younger and more diverse visitors as museums struggle to regain pre-pandemic attendance. The program, which builds on the museum’s existing free-entry events, seeks to remove financial barriers for emerging artists and young audiences.
