Two Nights of Revelry at the Whitney Ring in Amy Sherald’s First Major Museum Survey

A full week ahead of its public opening, the Whitney Museum of American Art’s most ardent supporters came out for not one but two nights of celebration of Amy Sherald’s “American Sublime.” Guests at Tuesday’s opening dinner donned chic downtown attire to toast the artist’s first major museum survey. Danny Meyers’ Union Square Events oversaw culinary for the evening, which featured introductions by Scott Rothkopf, Rujeko Hockley, and remarks by Sherald. Afterward, guests took in the survey exhibition, whose highlights include Sherald’s portraits of former First Lady Michelle Obama, and the late Breonna Taylor. The following night, many of the guests returned for the exhibition’s opening party. Notables in attendance included Law Roach, Paul Arnhold, Wes Gordon, Jordan Roth, Tony Pettis, Kyle Abraham, Thelma Golden, Jon Gray, Cleo Wade, Jordan Casteel, Hank Willis Thomas, Sheree Hovsepian, and more.
