DESIGNER OF THE DAY

Designer of the Day: Ann Korman

A longtime yoga practitioner and health coach, Ann Korman discovered jewelry making during a yoga training in Rishikesh, India, where a guru offered to impart the traditional Vedic understanding of gemstones. She now channels these teachings into ARK Fine Jewelry, a Los Angeles studio whose 18 karat gold pieces are imbued with the healing energy of ancient tantric symbols that, when meditated upon, spark profound spiritual growth.

Studio location: Los Angeles.

Describe what you make: I design meaningful 18 karat fine jewelry with the philosophy of energy healing by curating timeless gemstones and pairing tantric symbols of wisdom.

The most important thing you’ve designed to date: My Illusion Earrings, which were awarded Best in Colored Gemstones at Couture in 2018.

Describe the problem your work solves: I make jewelry that’s intended to inspire people. It’s designed with the purpose of healing and helping the person that wears it. My hope is to help the person that wears my pieces to be their highest self. It’s meant to not only be beautiful but to be healing and inspiring.

Describe the project you are working on now: I’m currently working on launching a new collection called Dreamscapes, which honor a world with no boundaries—dream-like realms that are beyond space and time. Tantric sacred geometry and other ancient symbols are brought to life in intricate, highly detailed patterns that evoke enlightenment and consciousness.

A new or forthcoming project we should know about: I plan to launch a collection that features an array of colored stones, inspired by the idea that we are beyond time and that we’re timeless.

What you absolutely must have in your studio: I listen to mantras and I love music by White Sun. I keep my healing gemstones around me and my crystal balls, crystal Ganeshas, crystal music bowls, my prisms, and I keep my goddess collection that I brought back with me from India.

What you do when you’re not working: I spend time in nature, garden, cook, and practice yoga and meditation.

Sources of creative envy: Anandamayi Ma, Eva Hesse, and Louise Bourgeois.

The distraction you want to eliminate: Spam.

Concrete or marble? Marble.

High-rise or townhouse? Townhouse.

Remember or forget? Remember.

Aliens or ghosts? Angels.

Dark or light? Light. My work is inspired by light.
