At Its Annual Gala, Aperture Eyes Its New Home

On Oct. 17, New York’s creative community gathered at the Mandarin Oriental to celebrate Aperture’s annual gala. The event supports the nonprofit’s mission to shape conversations around photography, platform vanguard artists, and create landmark publications. It also marked a pivotal moment as new details were shared around the organization’s upcoming move to its permanent home on the Upper West Side. The evening honored three individuals and Aperture partners—art historian Nicole Fleetwood, photographer Richard Misrach, and trustee Helen Nitkin—whose visionary art and scholarship has helped the organization continually shape culture. After a performance by experimental musician L’Rain, a silent and live auction raised more than $1 million from prints by more than 20 artists who have been central to Aperture’s past and present; several will be featured in its upcoming location’s inaugural show.
