On November 19, Surface brought together celebrated chef Daniel Boulud and visionary designer David Rockwell for an intimate conversation at One Madison Avenue. The evening honored their decades-long friendship, the indelible impact they’ve made on hospitality and design, and their latest collaboration: La Tête d’Or, an American steakhouse through a French lens with Art Deco-inspired interiors by Rockwell Group.

Following an introduction by SL Green’s Marc Holliday, Rockwell delved into the art of spatial “choreography,” emphasizing how flow and layout bring a dining space to life, while Boulud spoke to the necessity of great design amidst the “controlled chaos” of a restaurant. Together, their insights showcased the synergy between culinary excellence and immersive environments.

Post-conversation, guests mingled over Armand de Brignac Champagne, Flowers Winery selections, and cocktails from Sake Ono. Watch the highlights below.
