On Nov. 9, Surface hosted the 40th installment of its Design Dialogues series with Van Cleef & Arpels. This edition featured Alain Bernard, CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels Americas, alongside Beatrice Del Favero, luxury brand heritage consultant, and took place at Cedar Lake in New York City, where the High Jewelry Collection is currently on view. The exhibition, originally inspired by Brueghel’s painting of Noah’s Ark, was designed by artist Robert Wilson, and is on view through Nov. 19.
The conversation, moderated by Surface editor-in-chief Spencer Bailey, focused on how the exhibition’s overarching purpose was to make the otherwise closed doors of luxury jewelry more accessible to the broader public, as well as the evolving role of creative directors, and the importance of collaboration.
Notable guests at the talk included Daria Brit-Greene, Patrick and Caroline Coakley, Winka Dubbeldam, Gisue Hariri, Denize Maaloe, Diego Marini, and Andrew Zuckerman.
