On Thursday, Nov. 9, Surface celebrated the official launch of the Third-Eye Collection, a new collaboration from Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster and Dutch interior design brand Moooi. The intimate celebration of 30 guests took place at the Moooi Showroom and Brand Store in New York, where each of the four dinner tables featured a different style of eyewear from the new collection as its theme. The event was cohosted by Surface editor-in-chief Spencer Bailey, alongside Moooi cofounder Marcel Wanders, Gentle Monster CEO Won Lee, and Gentle Monster vice president Taye Yun.
Guests in attendance included Jeffrey Bernett, Lidewij Edelkoort, Pari Ehsan, JiaJia Fei, Gina Love, Frederick McSwain, Karin Rijlaarsdam, and Antwaun Sargent.
The Third-Eye Collection is Moooi’s first venture into accessory design, but Wanders feels extremely confident that this was a natural extension for the brand, given their strong pre-existing relationship with Gentle Monster. In a toast given shortly before the dinner Wanders said, “Building a successful collaboration is done by having mutual respect.” Yun, of Gentle Monster, also spoke to this feeling of sincerity in his toast, adding, “This product really makes sense, especially at a time when we’re sending a message to the global community about collaboration. We wanted Surface to have the honor of sending out that message and celebrating it with the New York community.”
