Worlds Collide at the Edges of Ailey Opening

Every so often, an art world happening takes the whole of New York City’s cultural sphere by storm. The opening of the Whitney’s landmark exhibition, “Edges of Ailey,” was one such occasion. Its three-day-long opening festivities included a dinner and show preview on Sept. 17 for supporters, artists, dancers, and museum members, hosted by the Whitney’s Scott Rothkopf and Ailey’s Sylvia Waters. The following two nights, more guests from the worlds of art, fashion, dance, and philanthropy turned out for a museum-wide opening party featuring cocktails from Maestro Dobel tequila and a set by DJ April Hunt. Notables in attendance included Adrienne Edwards, Kyle Abraham, Rujeko Hockley, Rashid Johsnon, Julie Mehretu, Paul Arnhold, Wes Gordon, Thelma Golden, Antwaun Sargent, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tyler Mitchell, and more.
