Faena Art Celebrates Shakespearean Love at the Sonnet 18: Fundraising Spring Dinner

On May 9, Faena Art held Sonnet 18: Fundraising Spring Dinner at the Faena Hotel Miami Beach. The fête commenced with opening remarks by Alan Faena and a reading of William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18, Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day? by chef Francis Mallmann. Guests enjoyed a dinner prepared in Mallmann’s signature open-fire technique, supported by chefs Paul Qui and Frederic Monnet. California-based land artist Jim Denevan was commissioned to create Common Circle, a large-scale sculpture that formed a wooden table seating the 290 guests in a perfect circle, which was designed to be rearranged into various forms such as an arc or infinity sign as it responds to its surroundings. Following dinner, attendees were invited to an intimate performance by award-winning musician John Legend at the Faena Theater. Additional notable guests include Peter Mikic, Ximena Caminos, Anabella Bergero, Kelly Breez, Magnus Resch, and Cornell Belcher, among others.
