Ghetto Gastro Hosts a One-Night-Only Popup Restaurant and Afterparty

On Oct. 5, culinary collective Ghetto Gastro created a popup restaurant as a part of Square's Culinary Creator's Project in New York City. For the popup, which was inspired by their forthcoming cookbook 'Black Power Kitchen' (Artisan, Oct. 25), Ghetto Gastro members Jon Gray, Pierre Serrao, and Lester Walker partnered with Square and CashApp to take over the former Butter space on Lafayette Street, where new restaurant and nightlife spot Jean's is slated to open later this year. Guests, including Questlove, Heron Preston, Joe Holder, Angelo Baque, and more, closed out the evening with an afterparty and live musical performance by rapper Smino. Photos by Rommel Demano/BFA.
