House of Leon Looks to Milan For Their Fourth Destination-Inspired Collection

To walk through Milan is to witness an architectural dialogue between centuries of development. Surprise and delight emerge through this nuanced exchange. From this collision of Milanese inspiration, twin brothers Jordan and Steven Neman, founders of the Los Angeles-based furniture and decor brand House of Leon, have derived their latest collection of sofas, chairs, and tables. It’s their fourth to reference a destination, following items born from the design language of Kyoto, Ojai, and Provence.

For the Milan Collection, House of Leon worked a range of modern materials through traditional artisanal processes leading to complementary developments. This includes the sofa, armchair, daybed, ottoman, and stool in their new Palazzo sofa series, which marries wool mohair fabrics with an ornate white oak base; the latter references the moldings of historic Milanese villas like Palazzo Gallarati Scotti. For the Ingresso Accent Chair, a stark aluminum frame emulates a brutalist facade, though its slip seat softens the aesthetic with options of hair-on-hide, plush shearling, or textured nubucks, suedes, and mohair.

In poured aluminum, with an antiqued bronze finish, House of Leon’s bold Meteorite Coffee Table nods to Milan’s history of bronze with its luscious hues. From the limited edition Fireside Accent Chair, composed of wood and patterned fabric (milled outside of Venice) to the stainless steel Zigzag Cocktail Tables, Milan Media Units, and more, the studio weaves together disparate geometries and textures that have factored into the history of the Italian city.

“For Milan, I strove to underscore the beauty of each element through the juxtaposition of old and new—of strength and of warmth,”shares Jordan, House of Leon’s creative director. “In utilizing clean, cool metals such as stainless steel and copper and highlighting them against bold upholsteries and leather, we were able to source from a tannery outside Milan itself.” His hope is that the Milan Collection will infuse architectural character into contemporary homes.
