The late President Jimmy Carter is remembered as a Habitat for Humanity builder.

Former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at 100, left a profound legacy in homebuilding through his hands-on work and advocacy for Habitat for Humanity. He and his late wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, championed affordable housing starting in the 1980s, raising awareness and constructing homes for families in need. The National Association of Homebuilders praised his commitment to promoting homeownership as essential to American life.

New York City’s MTA will finally begin to phase out its 1970s-era R46 subway cars.

The MTA plans to replace nearly a quarter of New York City’s subway fleet, phasing out the ubiquitous, and in some cases, nostalgia-tinged orange-seated R46 and R86 cars from the 1970s and 1980s with modern R211 trains. These new models feature open gangways, blue interiors, and improved reliability, addressing the aging fleet’s frequent breakdowns.

Kristen Stewart and Steven Yuen bring robot love to the big screen, starring in Love Me.

Love Me, which premiered at Sundance and is directed by Sam and Andy Zuchero, stars Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun as a buoy and a satellite seeking to understand life and love in a post-human world. After orbiting a planet containing humanity’s knowledge, the robots connect and use the internet to explore identity and relationships. The film’s theatrical release is set for January 31.

Owing to a 27 percent surge in the cost of gold, Rolex has raised some watch prices.

Rolex has increased prices on select models by up to 8 percent in response to a 27 percent surge in gold prices last year, marking a more substantial hike than last year’s rise of four percent. Premium models like the yellow gold Day-Date and GMT-Master II saw significant price jumps, with new costs exceeding $45,000. While gold’s surge influenced these changes, Rolex’s pricing also reflects demand, inflation, and economic factors, with more modest increases for steel models like the Submariner.

Scientists are stumped by a massive galaxy discovered with the James Webb telescope.

The James Webb Space Telescope has identified A2744-GDSp-z4, a massive grand-design spiral galaxy formed just 1.5 billion years after the Big Bang. This galaxy, with a redshift of 4.03, defies expectations as spiral galaxies typically appear much later in cosmic history. Scientists suggest its rapid development, accruing 10 billion solar masses within a few hundred million years, may be linked to a stellar bar fueling its formation, challenging existing models of galaxy evolution.
