Describe what you make: We run an architecture, furniture, and research studio—making spaces, objects, furniture, and books.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: Auburn, a restaurant that just opened in Los Angeles this spring.
Describe the problem your work solves: Specializing in creatively rethinking the way in which people dwell, we focus on simple solutions to living well.
Describe the project you are working on now: We just completed two large design/fabrication restaurants (Auburn and Bon Temps, both in Los Angeles) and are finishing our first residential project in Los Angeles—the remodel of a stunning mid-century home in the Hollywood Hills. We are also designing a summer home in Ireland that will inhabit a postwar dance hall. Working with an existing historical concrete shell of a building on the north coast of Ireland makes us super happy.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: We are planning the release of a new soft seating collection—the Pillow—in early fall of this year. Stoked about this one! Think frameless, floating cushions.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Music. On. All the time. Books and magazines are a must too. We are the never-ending collectors. Always have a good chilled bottle of wine in the fridge too. A motorcycle or two…
What you do when you’re not working: Weekends are for our daughter, our Australian Shepherd puppy, and the beach!
Sources of creative envy: We hold a deep respect for Axel Vervoordt, Vincent van Duysen, and Hans Verstuyft. There’s something magical in the air around Belgian architecture and interiors. Will forever love Mario Bellini and his sofas as well as Michel Ducaroy and his Togo.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Money.
