Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.
Age: 32
Occupation: Designer, creative director, co-owner.
Instagram: @lukas_peet
Hometown: Canmore, Alberta.
Studio location: Vancouver, British Columbia.
Describe what you make: As co-owner, designer, and creative director of ANDlight, a Vancouver-based luminaire design and manufacture, my days are full of all elements of creativity. Working on new and existing designs as well as planning new photoshoots, website updates, and print material.
Alongside ANDlight, I still maintain my own studio, called Lukas Peet Design, which I started in 2010 after graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven and moving back to my native Canada. The studio is active in the fields of product design, interior design, graphic design, and public space.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: Together with my partners Matt Davis and Caine Heintzman, we theoretically designed ANDlight as an outlet for our creativity and business ambition. As we approach our fifth year, we have created ten product families and extended our reach globally.
Describe the problem your work solves: ANDlight was created as a functional decorative lighting company with a focus on LED technology and a unique approach to design. We strive to create products that solve lighting problems in unique and interesting ways.
Describe the project you are working on now: I’m currently working on new designs for 2021 as well as final development and production refinement on our latest releases which debuted at Euroluce this year. They’ll be available in the fall.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: We’ll be moving to a new larger studio space as we have outgrown our current space. Coinciding with our fifth anniversary, it’ll be an interesting and exciting year. We’re working hard on new products for Euroluce 2021.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Good coffee, music, and a few dogs is ideal.
What you do when you’re not working: Ride my motorcycle or venture out into the nature surrounding Vancouver.
Sources of creative envy: My father Rudi Peet and my teachers at Design Academy Eindhoven. Aldo Bakker and Ilse Crawford. Barber & Osgerby.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Social media.
