MoMA has promoted drawing and prints curator Christophe Cherix to museum director.

Christophe Cherix, MoMA’s chief curator of drawings and prints, will take over as director this September, succeeding Glenn Lowry and his 30-year tenure. Cherix, who has been with the museum since 2007, was unanimously selected following a six-month global search. 

Egypt’s New Administrative Capital city outside of Cairo is nearing completion.

Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, a sprawling city and civic center east of Cairo, is nearing completion with key government buildings, a vast presidential palace, and Africa’s largest mosque already finished. Designed to house over six million people, the city features monumental architecture and neo-pharaonic, futuristic, and brutalist influences.

Next season, Homme Plissé Issey Miyake will swap Paris Fashion Week for Pitti Uomo.

Homme Plissé Issey Miyake will headline Pitti Uomo in June, marking a shift from the Paris Fashion Week menswear calendar. Further, instead of traditional seasonal shows, the brand will showcase its collections through global, traveling presentations. This move aligns with a broader industry trend, as major labels like Gucci and Valentino rethink their menswear strategies amid a slowing luxury market.

Following a drawn-out and public misconduct scandal, AIA is searching for its next CEO.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has begun searching for a new EVP/CEO following Lakisha Ann Woods’ departure in February. AIA’s 2024 president, Kimberly Dowdell, will lead the selection committee, which includes representatives from various AIA groups. In the interim, Stephen Ayers has taken over the role and recently voiced concerns to the General Services Administration about federal architectural mandates.

The president has issued an executive order concerning the Smithsonian’s curatorial and programming independence, calling for tighter oversight and a shift toward promoting “American greatness.” While the institution operates as a public-private partnership beyond direct presidential control, the order directs Vice President JD Vance to work with Congress on board appointments and funding restrictions. The move has sparked debate over the government’s influence on museum programming and the balance between historical narratives and political agendas.
