After months of speculation, LVMH taps Sarah Burton as Givenchy’s creative director.
LVMH has appointed Sarah Burton as the new creative director of Givenchy, aiming to revive the brand’s prominence, which has lagged behind other LVMH labels. The former Alexander McQueen creative director will oversee both menswear and womenswear, with her first collection debuting in March.
WeTransfer’s new parent company Bending Spoons plans to lay off most of its staff.
Tech company Bending Spoons, which recently acquired WeTransfer, plans to lay off 75 percent of the company’s staff, a move that would affect the majority of its 350 employees. The move follows similar job cuts at other Bending Spoons acquisitions, such as Evernote and Filmic, whose entire staff it laid off upon acquisition.
The Steven Holl–designed Bellevue Art Museum in Washington announces it will close.
The Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM) has announced its closure, citing financial difficulties worsened by declining attendance and reduced fundraising after the pandemic. Despite efforts like its “SAVE BAM” campaign, which raised more than $350,000, the museum was unable to secure sufficient support to remain operational. It will, however, still manage the 2025 BAM Arts Fair, a fundraiser and event for the local arts community in Bellevue.
Stella McCartney and PETA join forces to promote a ‘No Leather Ever’ pledge.
In time for New York Fashion Week, Stella McCartney and PETA are promoting the organization’s “I’d Rather Go Naked” campaign. McCartney, a lifelong advocate for animal rights, will host a ‘No Leather Ever’ march and party using her revamped SoHo store as a base for the cause, which seeks to gain traction within the fashion industry to phase out the use of leather.
Extinction Rebellion protestors shut down the Rijksmuseum, vowing to return.
Extinction Rebellion activists temporarily shut down Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum to protest its sponsorship by ING Bank, which they accused of funding the oil, gas, and coal industries. Demonstrators dressed in yellow blocked the museum’s entrance, and released yellow smoke inside, prompting police intervention and arrests. The group expressed its intent to continue protesting as long as the museum maintains its ties to ING.
