Sotheby’s will auction a rare July 1776 Essex Broadside, an early printing of the Declaration of Independence, on Jan. 24. The artifact, which is attributed to Robert Luist Fowle of New Hampshire, is one of thirteen known editions from 1776, and expected to sell for between $2 million and $4 million, is distinguished by its unique format and ties to prominent historical collections. The sale is part of the Visions of America series, a week-long celebration of American art and history curated by designer Ken Fulk.

Phillips reports a decline in auction revenue, announcing $721 million for 2024.
Phillips reported $843 million in global sales for 2024, including $721 million in revenue from auctions, which reflects a 14 percent decline from 2023. Despite the drop, the auction house achieved an 86 percent sell-through rate, with 80 percent of items selling above estimates and private sales contributing $121 million.
