Iron from the Eiffel Tower is the secret ingredient in this year’s Olympic medals.

The medals for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games incorporate pieces of iron from the Eiffel Tower. Crafted by Chaumet, each medal features an 18-gram chunk of iron at its center, removed during past renovations, adding to the medals’ historical significance. The iron is cut into a hexagon and is left in its original color to create a two-tone effect alongside the gold, silver, and bronze.
