Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.
Age: 36
Occupation: Founder of accessories brand, D’heygere, and freelance accessories designer.
Instagram: @d_heygere
Hometown: Kortrijk, Belgium
Studio location: Paris, France
Describe what you make: I design conceptual and functional accessories.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: The accessories that relate to my main concept ‘accessorize your accessory,’ such as the Canister Hoops (a pair of hoops with a cylinder to carry flowers, cigarettes or rolled banknotes).
Describe the problem your work solves: The opportunity to wear the same accessory in different ways.
Describe the project you are working on: I always work on many different projects at the same time, it’s very challenging, but also very exciting. Two of my freelance clients will soon release their new collection for whom I designed the accessories. For my brand, we’re launching two new collaborations and I’m also working on exclusive designs for our E-shop.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: I’d like to dig deeper into our manifesto that declares everything can become an accessory by translating it into a real one-of-a-kind, upcycled, usable object.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Paper and pens. I love to scribble things down and always have a never ending to-do list that I need to write down on paper.
What you do when you’re not working: I like to hang out with friends and play tennis.
Sources of creative envy: Observing people and flea markets. Books and exhibitions.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Watch less criminal series.
