An Evening of Milestones for the Studio Museum in Harlem

On Oct. 28, leaders of the Studio Museum in Harlem welcomed more than 700 artists, cultural luminaries, civic leaders, philanthropists, and prominent New Yorkers to the museum’s annual gala at The Glasshouse. On the heels of the museum’s recent announcement that its new home on 125th Street will officially open next fall, the event was a moment of celebration. Director and chief curator Thelma Golden greeted guests and presented the annual Joyce Alexander Wein Artist Prize to Toyin Ojih Odutola. Afterward, Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, announced an endowment of $10 million to the museum. Notables in attendance included Dawoud Bey, Derrick Adams, Glenn Ligon, Julie Mehretu, Carrie Mae Weems, Solange Knowles, Connie Butler, Deana Lawson, Danny Meyer, Tina Knowles, Legacy Russell, and more.
