A painting believed to be Vermeer’s last is currently on view in an Amsterdam museum.

Conservation efforts on Young Woman Seated at a Virginal suggest Vermeer may have revisited the canvas late in life, possibly making it his final work. Researchers found industrial dust embedded between paint layers—likely from the town of Delft’s ceramics industry—indicating a gap between the painting’s start and the addition of the sitter’s yellow shawl. The Dutch Master’s painting is currently on view in Amsterdam at the H’ART Museum’s “From Rembrandt to Vermeer” exhibition.

An incredibly rare portrait painted by Emily Brontë has sold for $42,000—nearly double its estimate.

Emily Brontë’s The North Wind sparked a bidding war during a sale by Forum Auctions before the Brontë Parsonage Museum secured it for their permanent collection at the cost of $42,000. The watercolor, which was painted during Brontë’s time studying in Brussels and long held in private hands, offers a rare glimpse into the artistic faculties of the Wuthering Heights author.

Jil Sander and Thonet have teamed up to reinterpret Marcel Breuer’s S 64 chair.

Jil Sander and Thonet’s reinterpretation of Marcel Breuer’s S 64 chair retains the architect and designer’s tubular steel structure while introducing new materials such as leather upholstery and dark-toned canework. The two resulting lines—Serious and Nordic—explore contrasting moods.

Approximately 100 employees at the Toledo Museum of Art will unionize.

Around 100 employees at the Toledo Museum of Art have voted to unionize under AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, driven by concerns over job security, fair wages, and benefits during the museum’s ongoing reinstallation project. The new union will represent a broad cross-section of departments, uniting part-time and professional staff amid growing uncertainty in arts funding at the national level.

The U.S. Commerce Secretary attempted to dispel the confusion around the iPhone and tariffs.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has clarified that while iPhones (and laptops) are temporarily exempt from tariffs, upcoming levies on semiconductors could still raise their costs. Confusion surrounding the measure stems from shifting policy that would see these goods reclassified from general trade tariffs to a national security framework, signaling that the electronics supply chain will soon face stricter scrutiny.
