When Nomos Glashütte—the German brand best known for its classic, almost sober, approach to watch design—introduced its first family of timepieces, in 1992, the Orion model was among its pillars.
Inside the Orion’s elegant, domed stainless steel case was a manual-wind movement—the only kind thin enough to fit inside the slender casing. In the decades since, Nomos Glashütte has flourished, establishing itself as a purveyor of design-minded wristwatches. When the company introduced the Update series earlier this year, it featured a new super-thin Neomatik date caliber (“DUW 6101” in collector parlance); using an enlarged 41 mm case, the svelte Orion was finally able to accommodate an automatic caliber complete with a convenient date function.
Now, Nomos Glashütte has further refined the series with two new dial color variations—a brilliant dark blue, and a burnished shade of green, dubbed “olive gold”—to join the traditional white silver-plated dial version. Boasting the same generous date window, domed sapphire glass, curved casing, and tailored lugs that made the Orion a best-seller, the new Orion Neomatik 41 Date Midnight Blue and Orion Neomatik 41 Date Olive Gold are welcome additions to a line synonymous with timeless elegance.
