In Mexico City, Yola Mezcal Raises a Glass to Wild Agave

On Feb. 4, Yola Mezcal celebrated the launch of its new Wild Agave limited series with a night of festivities in Mexico City. Throughout the evening, guests sipped on the female-owned brand’s latest limited-series Wild Agave mezcal produced from uncultivated native plants while mingling through an amphitheater created on-site by local studio La Metropolitana, which outfitted the space with its array of reclaimed wooden furniture. The setup was joined by a life-size ice sculpture of intertwined human figures by Mexican artist and fashion designer Barbara Sanchez-Kane, whose original artwork—a gestural drawing that shows how a single line can distill wildness and power—adorns the initial batch of 500 bottles, whose sales will help benefit Oaxacan organizations supporting education for indigenous women. A musical performance by Jeuru closed out the night. Photography by Gerardo Maldo.
