At the Temple of Dendur, YoungArts Toasted Creative Freedom and Arts Education

With gala season in full swing, it should come as little surprise to see SUVs snaking down Manhattan’s prestigious 5th. Ave. stretch nicknamed Museum Mile, even on a school night. Such was the case last week, when a glamorous crowd in cocktail finery ascended the Met steps on the occasion of the YoungArts New York Gala. Honorary chairs Misty Copeland, Agnes Gund, and Titus Kaphar hosted more than 250 attendees for the gala. Raúl Àvila, who has designed events ranging from the Met Gala to the Tony Awards red carpet, incorporated the photography of YoungArts alumna Jordan Tiberio into the dinner and performances set within the museum’s Temple of Dendur. Notables in attendance included Mikhail Baryshnikov, Camille Henrot, Kennedy Yanko, Connie Butler, Dr. Louise Bernard, Thelma Golden, Rujeko Hockley, Nicola Lees, Scott Rothkopf, Paul Arnhold, Wes Gordon, Jasmine Wahi, KAWS, and more.
