Two years after the success of his 2015 exhibition “Summer,” Alex Israel returns to Almine Rech with a sequel. Known to mine his native Los Angeles for inspiration, the artist turns his eye to the beach with his latest works, including an animated pelican, developed in collaboration with designer Michael Curry, operated by a rudimentary hand-powered spring mechanism, and a group of aluminum sculptures made from a cast of Israel’s own body, squeezed into a wetsuit.
