The rising gallerist tasks an intergenerational group of talents to design objects as catalysts that respond to the most pressing issues affecting today’s fractured political landscape. The resulting group of objects, which include a bench by Justin Donnelly and Monling Lee of Jumbo, Chris Wolston’s first-ever rug, and a standing desk by Ellen Pong, are less functional objects and more tools for thought. “Design is the planned form of material culture, a physical expression—but can this be backwards engineered?” asks Scully. “If so, design can become less about solving a problem of physical provisions and instead answer the questions around how we want to live.”
