A little-known trove of early-20th-century illustrations documents flora and fauna as observed by members of the New York Zoological Society on an expedition to South America and the Caribbean. Established in 1895, the organization’s aim was to study and preserve animal species (it exists today as the Wildlife Conservation Society). Along for the ride, artists recorded their findings. In “Exploratory Works,” 60 of these images will be on display.
