Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren, the duo behind Swedish studio Front, unveil a new set of mirrored objects following in-depth research about how the function, materiality, value, and status of mirrors has changed over time. As a group, the objects reflect a variety of intertwined historic and cultural references, from evoking the first moment humans saw their own reflection to highlighting the traditional know-how of a 680-year-old bronze foundry. The end result feels like the study of humanity’s evolution through the prism of the mirror: “From the first stone mirror made 8,000 years ago, the history of mirrors has been laced with magic and poetry, luxury and vanity, myth and faith, medieval industrial espionage and modern psychology, craft and technological advances, culture and self-consciousness,” Front said in a statement.
