A group of Design Academy Eindhoven alumni explore global systems of discarded objects, ranging from satellite graveyards to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. “As the inevitable product of consumer culture, junk presents us with a complex system of things,” says curator Martina Muzi. “Designers are a part of this system, so we have an urgent responsibility to observe it and grasp how it works.” Showing concurrently until Oct. 27 is the latest iteration of Studio Drift’s Materialism series, which visualizes the physical amount of plastic that exits an average supermarket each day.
